A four-location San Francisco fromagerie and a nationwide overnight charcuterie kitchen, both cheese-loving but built for different moments. When you're shopping for a cheese-and-charcuterie gift online, the local fromageries and the ship-anywhere makers solve different problems, and the right pick depends on where you are and what you need to arrive at the door. La Fromagerie SF and Boarderie both take real cheese seriously, both are founder-led, and both have built loyal customers, but they are not the same product.
What's the actual difference between Boarderie and La Fromagerie SF?
Boarderie ships chef-arranged cheese AND charcuterie boards overnight from our West Palm Beach kitchen, ready to set on the table. La Fromagerie SF is a San Francisco French-style fromagerie with four retail locations, a lunch counter, wine and beer, gift boxes that ship nationwide, and Bay Area delivery. Two different products, two different gifting jobs.
La Fromagerie was founded by Ruben Donze, who grew up around a dairy farm in the French Alps and opened the first location in San Francisco's Dogpatch neighborhood around 2020-2021. The brand has since expanded to four locations: Dogpatch (2425 3rd Street), Montgomery (101 Montgomery Street, FiDi), SoMa (100 First Street), and Marina (2260 Chestnut Street). The shops focus on terroir-driven cheeses from Europe and the US, charcuterie, wines, prepared foods (gourmet sandwiches, salads, hors d'oeuvres), cheese platters, gift boxes, and raclette party kits. Local SF delivery runs $4.99; South Bay / East Bay delivery is $19.99. Gift boxes ship nationwide.
We started Boarderie in 2021 to answer a different question: what would it take to deliver a catering-quality cheese AND charcuterie board, fully arranged, anywhere in the country, overnight, ready to serve? The answer became a new product category. We have been featured on ABC's Shark Tank (Season 14), selected for Oprah's Favorite Things in 2022 and 2023, and named a Food Network Editor's Pick in 2025.
Both brands love real cheese. The product format is different.
