One maker, one marketplace, two very different ways your food gift gets made. When you're shopping for a premium food gift online, the shipping label looks the same, but what's behind it is not. Boarderie and Goldbelly both deliver nationwide, both sit at the premium end of the food-gift category, and both have built loyal followings, but they operate on opposite business models.
What's the actual difference between Boarderie and Goldbelly?
Boarderie is a maker. Goldbelly is a marketplace. We make every cheese and charcuterie board ourselves in one West Palm Beach kitchen and ship it overnight. Goldbelly lists more than 1,000 third-party restaurants, bakeries, and food makers and ships their signature dishes nationwide. Both deliver premium food gifts. The product, the consistency, and the experience are different.
Goldbelly was founded in 2013 in New York by Joe Ariel, Joel Gillman, Trevor Stow, and Vanessa Torrivilla Ariel as part of the Y Combinator Winter 2013 batch. The company has raised approximately $133 million in funding and built a marketplace where customers can order iconic regional foods (Primanti Bros sandwiches from Pittsburgh, Snow's BBQ brisket from Texas, Doan's Bakery cakes from California) shipped to anywhere in the country. Goldbelly handles logistics; the food itself is made and packed by the individual restaurant or maker.
We started Boarderie in 2021 with a different model: one kitchen, one team, one product category. Every Boarderie board is hand-arranged by our culinary team out of one SQF-certified, FDA-registered Florida kitchen the day it ships. No third-party makers. No marketplace variability. We have been featured on ABC's Shark Tank (Season 14), selected for Oprah's Favorite Things in 2022 and 2023, and named a Food Network Editor's Pick in 2025.
Both brands ship nationwide and both are premium-priced. The product and the experience are different. Below is how they stack up.
